The Michigan State University Percussion studio is made up of a diverse group of students from a variety of backgrounds. The studio of approximately twenty-five includes undergraduate students majoring in music performance, education and composition and graduate students in the masters, performance diploma and doctoral programs. All studio members have the opportunity to participate in outstanding performing ensembles including the MSU Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Musique 21 New Music Ensemble and Salsa Verde.

The percussion ensemble was one of the winners of the Percussive Arts Society competition and performed at the PASIC convention in 2013 and 2017. The ensemble has also been invited to perform on the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, the McCormick Marimba Festival, the Blue Griffin Recital Series, the Mott Community College recital series and may other venues. The percussion studio has performed and worked with many guest artists including Robert van Sice, Michael Burritt, Bob Becker, Michael Rosen, the So Percussion Group, Francis Kofi, Giovanni Hidalgo, Svet Stoyanov, Ji Hye Jung and Keith Aleo among others. Alumni and current members of the studio hold teaching positions at colleges, universities and k-12 programs across the US as well as in Argentina, Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Alumni have also performed with many regional orchestras and have gone on to prestigious graduate programs.
